A conciliation committee in the European Parliament has decided to support the proposal that no one should be switched off from the internet without justice, and that a fair trial is guaranteed. Thus, the EU Parliament and Council of Ministers agreed on the telecoms package.
Privacy issues have been the hot issue in the EU telecoms package.
Telecoms package is essentially about the tightening competition on the EU market. But the contentious issue has been integrity, for example, file sharers should be switched off from the internet without justice.
Strengthening Protection
"This decision enhances competition and consumer protection in Europe and will lead to more, better and cheaper broadband services and a strong reinforcement of the protection of Europe's internet users," the Infrastructure Minister Åsa Torstensson said in a statement.
To telecoms package will enter into force once the EU Parliament and Council of Ministers confirms the transaction, expected during the end of November.
Issues to discuss in this area are related to freedom of speech. Should it be the same on internet (when we write in blogs or send emails for example) as in other media? The free Internet is extremely important, not only for us in Europe but also in dictatorships. Which effects can we see from this decision? How will it affect our lives?
